White Island
Whakaari / White Island is an active stratovolcano, situated in the Bay of Plenty, 48km off the east coast of the North Island.
The island is New Zealand’s most active cone volcano and is only the peak of a much larger submarine volcano. It is a link in the chain of volcanoes called the Pacific Ring of Fire.
The only way to see this force of nature is from a Scenic Flight by Floatplane or Helicopter.
Fly over the rugged, unspoilt features of this volcanic island, viewing moon-like surfaces, steaming craters, flocks of sea birds and sulphur-yellow landscapes. You will see the remains of the old sulphur works and the highly acidic crater lake.
