Flying North East into Arnhem Land, we quickly arrive at the “Archway”. A dominant natural structure near the end of an outlier, an island of rock separated from the Arnhem Land Plateau. This valley formed over an unimaginable age, is known as Mikinj Valley. Largely dominated by a large year round billabong, the valley is also covered by seasonal creeks.
Resting between the escarpment dominated rock country, the East Alligator River passes through the Mikinj Valley.
Its placid dry season waters and perfect white sand defy the reality of massive floodwaters that travel though during the wet season.
