The Horizontal Falls have been described by naturalist David Attenborough as “one of the greatest wonders of the natural world”. In the turquoise water of Talbot Bay, the fast moving tidal current squeezes through a break in-between the McLarty Ranges. Not accessible by land, to see this spectacular sight a Scenic Flight is a must. With your choice of Helicopter, Aeroplane or Seaplane options to choose from.
The natural phenomenon is created as seawater builds up faster on one side of the gaps than the other, creating a waterfall up to 5m high on a spring tide. The powerful tides in the Kimberley can reach more than 10 metres. Within each change of the tide, the direction of the falls reverses, creating vast tidal whirlpools.
